Effective communication is a fundamental human right and a foundational aspect of learning and participating in the community. Access to communication supports is protected by numerous disability rights laws.

Students transitioning to adulthood may experience barriers to continued use of AAC. Navigating these new and often poorly-coordinated systems can be difficult for young adults and their families.
